I'm pregnant! :)
Well most everyone I know knows this by now.
That test was done back in November. Pretty much threw a monkey wrench in all our plans. We wanted to do a bit of traveling for a year. Oh well, at least we'll have a new travel companion. Not to worry, unplanned doesn't mean unloved. Does that sound too korny or mushy to you? Well, kiss my ...
Shortly after, we went on a pregnancy book borrowing spree. I personally went folate crazy when buying food. "Does it have folate?" "How much daily %?". I haven't done as much reading as I want to though.
I want to do the best job possible supporting Mean. It's not so easy since I'm just naturally lazy. Thankfully Mean doesn't have any crazy food cravings. Not a lot of mood swings either. Though she says I'm the one having the mood swings. I don't know why. Maybe that's what Scared+Excited does. I dunno, I just have to fix that so Mean can relax more.
We had an appointment with the OB-GYN only this January (3 months). I heard our child's heartbeat for the first time. Pretty cool. I wish I could have recorded it or something. Can't wait for the ultrasound. I'm not sure if I want to know the sex yet though. It's either we could be more prepared or have a nice little surprise. In any case I'd like a photo and/or video. Maybe even a 3D image. Of course I'll post them here.
Here's a little update:

Mean @ 29
Don't worry, she doesn't mind me posting her age. :)
Mean celebrated her birthday just Saturday (her Birthday was Friday though). We ate out with our household mates in CFC at Boston Pizza. I'll post some pics later on.

Moving soon
There's this apartment downtown which we've been waiting to have vacancies. We had a chance around a month back to get in but we didn't feel we were ready since it was really short notice. A few days ago we were informed that another unit freed up and we decided to go for it despite the similarly short notice. Earlier today, we got confirmation that we got it and we can move in as early as July 3. We probably won't move that early though.
Due to this, we started shopping around for essential furniture. Namely a bed and a small dining table. So we went to what seems to be the furniture sector of the city at Ellice and St. James area. We actually were at the area to pick-up a microwave on sale at Superstore. However, it seems these were wiped out. While walking around the area we found a JYSK store. Mean spotted a small, cheap dining table and chairs in their flyers the other day. We found the set in the store and decided to buy it. We'll have to find a way to transport it though (delivery is nearly half of the purchase price).
Another thing we looked around for are beds. We checked out a bunch of furniture stores but a lot of these seemed to cater to richer folk and didn't have a lot of beds. The places that seemed to have what we need (and can afford) were The Brick and Sleep Country. They both had good selections and good service though I suppose I'd give an edge in the "sales talk" category to Sleep Country. Not that the guy at The Brick was bad, he was quite helpful. The Sleep Country guy was just really seemed into his job. He even suggested we check out competitors like the Brick and Sears (which we'll check out tomorrow). We haven't fully decided what to buy yet though. Maybe after we check out Sears. Beds are quite expensive though especially for Peso converters. But I guess it's a good investment.
There are a lot of things we need to buy initially. We'll try to take things slow though; gradually put together a decent home. It's a bit scary given the expenses, adjustments and added responsibility. But at the same time, it's exciting with more freedom and a place we can call home. Me and Mean will now have to depend on each other even more. I guess we're gonna find out even more what marriage is all about.

5 years
June 8 was me and Means 5th year as a couple (not married). We weren't able to celebrate then though. So I got her some flowers in the meantime.

Today we finally celebrated by having dinner at Olive Garden. Olive Garden is a well-known Italian Restaurant here (based in the US). I learn that they have over 600 branches in North America. I'm no food critic, so I'll just say I enjoyed it and left with a hard time walking. Mean couldn't finish her food so we had it packed. Service was great with the crew extra attentive to diners. We'll definitely go back there several more times to try out other menu items.

1st Wedding Anniversary
Today is Me and Mean's 1st wedding anniversary. Despite most of that year being apart, it's been a really good one especially thanks to these last few months spent together. And today we planned to celebrate with a simple lunch out (you might say "cheap", but I only started working this week :) ). Unfortunately, we're gonna have to postpone this.
The ice may be melting. But there's still a lot left. So it's pretty weird for me to see rain fall at this time. This is also my first rain in Canada. Anyway, I suppose with the still low temperature, this results in slippery roads and sidewalks. Not only that, it started snowing a bit later in the day.
So the weather kinda ruined our plans. But we were still very happy to reach this milestone. We settled with watching Breakfast at Tiffany's with Audrey Hepburn. I actually liked it, but I had to ignore the 60's speaking styles which I used to make fun of.
So there, not the day we expected. But we'll make up for it next weekend I guess. Hoping for several more decades of bliss.

Nice coincidence
Had 2 interviews today. I kinda had a feeling with the first one that I wouldn't get it. The other one meanwhile seemed quite interested. Interestingly, the addresses of these companies were St. Mary's Avenue and St Mary's Road respectively.
As I got off the bus downtown coming from the interviews, I saw my wife exiting Winnipeg Square on the way to Tim Horton's (coffee shop). That was a nice coincidence.

Called Dad
After several attempts for the last few days, I was able to contact Dad. I let him know how I was doing here. The usual weather stories of course. Mean was also able to talk to him for a while. Again, it's nice when your spouse gets along great with your parents. We also talk about shipping some of the stuff I had to leave behind thanks to the NAIA incident. Neither Air Canada nor Cathay Pacific replied to my message. I did see a hit from Canada and Hong Kong in my web counter shortly after I sent my message though. Oh well, that was expected.

Called Mom
We were able to call mom up today. I used my leftover Telus phone card credits. I let her know that I've arrived safely and am adjusting to the cold. Mean got to talk to her too. She was probably on the phone longer than me. I'm really glad that my wife gets along great with my parents. It could really be a major headache if that wasn't so.
I wasn't able to contact dad. He was probably "tripping" (Pinoy realty term for touring clients around). I'll try again tomorrow.
